Well, Veronica Mars has been one of my prefered shows last year. I saw every season transmitted in Italy and I’ve been loving her and the misteries of that TV show.
Something that is surely not a mistery to anyone is that Veronica Mars may have received an enormous monetary sponsor by Apple. In Veronica Mars every cool character, every protagonist, is someone who uses a Mac. There are MacBook Pros everywhere, Imacs and so on all over the serie. If someone is a shy character, then be sure he uses a PC. If someone is cool, he uses an Apple computer. Thy appear everywhere in the serie. Guess how much Apple actually paid for this massive ad and by the way, almost any America TV Show or Holliwood Movie actually is full of Apple computer everywhere. No surprire. They are the cooler, the most advanced, they make they’re show with the awesome design… they are the best and most advanced peace of hardware in what the computer world has to offer, and that’s for sure.
But in Veronica Mars there’s a part of the show where we can listen to a conversation between a girl, one of Veronica’s best friends, and an almost unknown guy. They’re conversation is basically centered on which Operative system is better, Ubuntu Linux or Mac OSX. None of the two is a winner in this conversation and that’s a very good thing. First because they mentioned Ubuntu in a TV Show, one so popular… and second because they didn’t conclude that OSX is better. Each of the guys just points out why he uses he’s OS. And that’s all. The boy whants the girl to try Ubuntu, she is happy with OSX and here’s the question…
I don’t remember the name of the girl but she was a computer expert, an hacker, a very skilled one, in the TV Show….
Update: BBQChips gently pointed out in a comment the name of the girl I was talking about is Cindy Mackenzie, often refered to as impl Mac…. is it a casualty that her name is that of the Apple computer ;D ?? I don’t think so.. ;P
so how came she uses the most userfriendly OS out there and not a geek made and made for geeks OS such as Linux? Beside the fact that Ubuntu is for human beeings and it is very user friendly, there’s no doubt that ubuntu Linux is a better hacking platform than OSX. IT has much more programs, tools and so on to hack someone else computer, to access and violate nets and so on… and in the movie this girl actually does all this sort of things…. so why does she use OSX? And where the hell did she find the right programs and tools to hack things that well in OSX? Sure OSX is a BSD based system, that is a cousin of Linux… But Linux is a better hacking platform for sure…
So tell me girl…. why don’t you try Ubuntu? I can only imagine what sort of things you would be doing with it if you are a genious hacker with OSX 😀 !
The girl’s name is Mac. At least, that’s what everyone calls her… Her real name is Cindy Mackenzie

I would say that almost every single hacking tool available for linux can also be used on Mac. Becuase they are both based on Unix, porting the apps is trivial
Honestly I never thought of OSX that way, since it is so full of user friendly applications that a normal user hardly can ever see in his life the command line, while in Ubuntu it is vital to know how to use some basic commands…
I’m a recent Mac convert and I will never go back to the PC. I’m also a huge Veronica Mars. I always knew Macs looked the best but they are great computers. I have never used Linux.
If one is happy with one system, he/she should stick with it. No needs of holy wars. I don’t get when people try to convince that Linux is better than Macs or viceversa.
@Justin: Sure, I’m a Mac user too. Infact I’m writing now from my Macbook, I have no PC in my house and am going to buy as soon as I’ve got some money the new Imac, it’s really wonderfull!! I use Ubuntu in dualboot and try to use Ubuntu much more than OSX but for a lot of things it is still a bit immature… it is evolving at an incredible speed tough, maybe in the future we’ll be really able to use only Open Source software and say goodbye to proprietary! That’s what I believe and hope for the future 🙂 Nowadays I believe that OSX is the best OS around by far.
@Nick: Yeah, I hate holy wars too, specially in this kind of things. But I don’t agree with what you say: sure no one wants to make people use a different system than the one he uses, and sure every system has its advantages and its faults but I think that anyone should try every available alternative before it “Stays stick” with something. I tell you that for personal experience: you never know what you miss if you don’t try it first!
So I don’t like when people try to convince people that OSX is better than Linux or viceversa but both are worth a try! While I agree with people trying to convince somebody that Windows is shitware 😀
I believe in Hollywood both TV and Movies often times the “hacker” Computer was a Mac regardless of the OS it was running.
Just to let people know…. Mac users CAN have their cake and eat it too.

Dude just wanna say. OS X has a terminal, Linux has a terminal. Applications is there for the both of them. To do hacking. I would say either is equally good.
